Power generation is becoming an increasing problem in South Africa. Africa produces approximately 90% of its electricity from coal-fired power stations and only 5% hydroelectric pumped storage. Durban has a very steep topography, which results high pressure certain parts the water distribution network (WDN). Leakage costly contributes to large extent non-revenue (NRW) network. Pressure reducing valves (PRVs) are used WDNs control pipework reduce leakage. This excess can be generate by pump acting as turbine (PAT). The generated function flow rate reduction through PAT. hydraulic modelling software EPANET 2.2 for analysis Cornubia Integrated Human Settlement Development Phase 2A WDN Durban. determine strategic placement PATs their setting configuration extract most energy system.
